Arches National Park is located just outside the town of Moab. It’s such a beautiful park and the arches are all so unique. This would be a park we’d return to for some more hikes!
As you drive into the park your greeted with giant boulders and cliffs! You will drive past the famous balanced rock and a couple arches. This living dirt was pretty cool. But if you step on it you kill it and it will never grow back! We hiked the Devils Garden trail. This hike is so much fun! It’s not just walking, but you have the opportunity to do some scrabbling up the rocks! It’s like a boulder playground. The trail was not well marked in some areas which made it even more of an adventure! Along the hike we saw some incredible arches including Tunnel Arch, Pine Tree Arch, Landscape Arch, Wall Arch, Navajo Arch, Partition Arch, Black Arch, Double O Arch, and Private Arch. From this trail you can also see and hike to Dark Angel! Once you hike the Devil’s Garden you can take the Primitive Loop Trail back and it’s so much fun! This is where most of the scrabbling happens. On this trail you navigate your way over and through giant boulders! This is not a heavily trafficked trail because it’s not very well marked and some people can not scrabble up and down the rocks so it’s a great place to get away from the crowded areas of the park. Dark Angel is a 150’ sandstone tower at the very end of the Devils Garden.
From another hike you can get up close with the most iconic arch of all – Delicate Arch. This is the arch on most post cards, images, and the Utah license plates. We saw this arch after our 8 mile hike, and we were so worn out from it we did not hike to Delicate Arch but we did stop at the lookout.
We had a great time in Arches, but it’s time to explore the next park!
